Room 1913

Room 1913 takes its name from the birth year of my maternal grandmother, Maria. She was born and lived in this house until the birth of her first daughter, Concetta. Among her school notebooks from her years at boarding school in Acireale, I found a description of this house, its street, the internal staircase leading to the terrace and its spacious rooms. I also discovered many photographs of Maria and her siblings taken here, especially on the terrace. The room retains its original pitch-stone floors, a distinctive dark local limestone naturally marked by traces of petroleum found beneath this area. Warm gray walls meet a blue-gray tone that continues across the ceiling. An original 1940s dressing table and a late-19th-century decorated metal headboard add character to the spacious room, which is filled with light from a large shuttered window. A small hallway leads to a generous bathroom finished in gray stone tones and decorative tiles. Its panoramic window overlooks the rooftops and the façade of the Church of San Pietro. The room also includes a comfortable powder-pink sofa bed that converts into a single bed, allowing the room to accommodate up to three guests.
